How do you identify a Muslim?

Except that a Muslim (a member of Islam) testified to being Muslim, you cannot! The Qur'an cites a number of situations where a Muslim may use Taqiyyi the word they use for lying in situations. Specifically:

Qur'an (16:106) - Establishes that there are circumstances that can "compel" a Muslim to tell a lie.

Qur'an (3:28) - This verse tells Muslims not to take those outside the faith as friends, unless it is to "guard themselves" against danger, meaning that there are times when a Muslim may appear friendly to non-Muslims, though they should not feel that way..

Qur'an (9:3) - "...Allah and His Messenger are free from liability to the idolaters..." The dissolution of oaths with the pagans who remained at Mecca following its capture. They did nothing wrong, but were evicted anyway.

Qur'an (40:28) - A man is introduced as a believer, but one who must "hide his faith" among those who are not believers.

Qur'an (2:225) - "Allah will not call you to account for thoughtlessness in your oaths, but for the intention in your hearts" The context of this remark is marriage, which explains why Sharia allows spouses to lie to each other for the greater good.

Qur'an (3:54) - "And they (the disbelievers) schemed, and Allah schemed (against them): and Allah is the best of schemers." The Arabic word used here for scheme (or plot) is makara, which literally means 'deceit'. If Allah is supremely deceitful toward unbelievers, then there is little basis for denying that Muslims are allowed to do the same. (See also 8:30 and 10:21)

Where Muslims are instructed not to lie to each other, there is no such restrictions to non-Muslims.

The current question of whether certain Republican politicians would support a Muslim for president is meaningless. Any candidate who intends to take the oath of office knows that a Muslim cannot take the same oath and be true to Islam, in effect denying the ideology to which he is loyal.

Then non-Muslims must find the way to discover if the candidate is Muslim and using the latitude of the Qur'an as a reason to lie about their true loyalty. Here are some possibilities, but since the attitude of Islam is that the ends justifies the means, any action is permissible to bring the United States under Islamic rule.

Watch For

Observance of the "Five Pillars" of Islam.

shahada (confession of faith),

"There is no god but God (and) Muhammad is the messenger of God." confession is necessary to become a Muslim but a public declaration is not necessary.

salat (prayer),

5 prayers a day are required. There are a set of positions including; bowing with hands on knees, standing, prostrating and sitting in a special position that is easily identifiable. However, the prayers may take place anywhere so may be conducted in private.

zakat (almsgiving),

From Wikipedia:

There are five principles that should be followed when giving the zakat:

The giver must declare to God his intention to give the zakat.

The zak?t must be paid on the day that it is due.

After the offering, the payer must not exaggerate on spending his money more than usual means.

Payment must be in kind. This means if one is wealthy then he or she needs to pay a portion of their income. If a person does not have much money, then they should compensate for it in different ways, such as good deeds and good behavior toward others

. The zakat must be distributed in the community from which it was taken.

sawm (fasting, especially during the month of Ramadan), and

Ritual fasting is practiced from dawn to dusk particularly during the month of Ramadan.

hajj (the pilgrimage to Mecca).

The Hajj is a pilgrimage that occurs during the Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijjah to the holy city of Mecca. Muslims must make this trip at least once during his lifetime.

It is clear that none of these observances are adequate to determine a person to be a Muslim.

A Way....

One way a Muslim can be identified is thru his reaction to "Insulting" the faith or the prophet. The Qur'an is quite clear as to the actions that should be taken, particularly the following:

Qur'an (6:93) - "Who can be more wicked than one who inventeth a lie against Allah?" If the death penalty is prescribed for lesser crime, then it stands to reason that it should be imposed for the most "wicked".

Qur'an (33:57) - "Lo! those who malign Allah and His messenger, Allah hath cursed them in this world and the Hereafter, and hath prepared for them the doom of the disdained"

Qur'an (33:61) - [continues from above] "Accursed, they will be seized wherever found and slain with a (fierce) slaughter."
